Recycling Garden Waste

Green issues, recycling and the environment have become key issues in today’s’ society. In the last few years we have seen much more dedicated media attention and at long last governments are starting to wake up to these very serious topics and their global consequences. However, for the average gardener this is old hat. The garden has always been the grass roots of recycling via mulching, composting and recycling garden waste.

There are many ways we can recycle in our households and here we are going to have a look at some of the easiest, effective methods.

Collecting & Harvesting Rain Water

One of the first images that spring to mind if you think of Britain is rain, so it is quite remarkable that we still use an average of one sixth of the UK’s drinking water for outdoor garden use. Considering the amount of rainfall in the UK one of the easiest most effective means of recycling is the collection of rain via the guttering for use in the garden.

By using rain collector we can capture rain water from the roof with very little time and zero effort and harvest it for use in the garden. Simply choose a level ground near the gutter and choose an adequate water butt. Most councils now have garden tipping sites and garden waste bins but why waste these prime materials when they can easily be used to fertilise your garden and provide a free, nutrient rich compost. Composters have subtle designs and more importantly make it easier to obtain the perfect compost. When the compost is ready, simply open the base and you have the perfect fertiliser for your garden.

When preparing the waste for composting then shredders cut down on the back breaking job of breaking the waste into suitable sizes to allow for the organic breakdown.
