Garden wind turbine plans rejected
Steve Thompson writes: A Yorkshire resident has had his plans to build a wind turbine in his garden rejected by Harrogate Borough Council.
Mr S Paley had asked the council to grant permission for his proposals to build a turbine near to his farmhouse at Mount View Farm, the Knaresborough Post reports.
But officials claimed that the turbine, which would have been eight metres tall, was not well suited to the area due to its size and location.
Mr Paley's agent revealed that the turbine would be of great environmental benefit and would be largely obscured from view.
"The installation of the turbine would provide sufficient green energy to cover most of the power that would be required at the site," the agent said.
"It would be a small installation with very little impact on the landscape. It would assist the owner in his plans to reduce his carbon footprint, and generally provide long-term benefit by reducing pollutant gases that add to global warming," the agent added.
Mr Paley has already installed a geothermal heat pump on his property in a bid to become carbon neutral.
