Alison Patel writes: A Welsh school has been given an award in recognition of its awareness of the environment, Wales online has reported.
St Christopher's school in Wrexham worked to create an eco-centre which has welcomed 16,000 visitors through its doors since opening ten years ago.
Visitors to the centre can learn about tree planting and recycling as well as enjoying activities such as willow weaving and dry-stone walling.
Winner of the Eco Schools National Grounds award, St Christopher's has been described as "truly exceptional".
The panel of judges said: "Nobody who comes into contact with this vibrant school can be left in any doubt about the importance of being both environmentally and globally aware. It works hard to promote the word on these issues and its influence spreads far beyond the school gates."
Tarmac Ltd are sponsoring the school and are working in partnership with them to regenerate 42 acres of farm quarry to create an environmental study centre that has a wetland, grassland and wetland.
