Alison Patel writes: A woman has managed to successfully grow bananas in her garden in Ipswich, the evening star has reported.
Although Prema Leathers has had her banana plant for more than ten years, this is the first time it has yielded any fruit.
She said: "Gardening is my life. If it is raining, there are always plenty of things I can do in my greenhouses.
"I'm not sure why the banana plant fruited now but I know that it does take time and I've been waiting ten years."
Mrs Leather will be opening her organic garden to the public next month in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
She has held open days at her garden four times and has said that she enjoys tending to her plants so much she is looking forward to sharing her achievements with others.
According to the local paper, bananas should be planted during the warmer months, "in a well-drained soil enriched with organic matter".
