Daniel Shane writes: The transformation of a forgotten, overgrown allotment into a lush organic garden is the latest challenge for a Welsh environmental group.
The rejuvenation of the overgrown allotment, which must be completed within a year, is part of a collaboration between environmentalists BTCV Cymru, mental health group Mentro Allan and Cwmtillery Communities First.
The concept behind the challenge is to unite the community of Cwmtillery in a project that will benefit the people who live in the area.
Steve Smith, of BCTV Cymru, told the Gwent Gazette: "The allotment will be totally organic and we are aiming to get help from the local schools to not only run a part of it but help design the whole site."
He conceded that the project was still a way-off from completion, though: "It's like a war zone at the moment, loads of fly-tipping everywhere."
The ideas don't stop at an organic allotment either, with the community also keen to install a toilet which uses sawdust instead of water.
A pair of Suffolk students recently scooped a major landscaping prize after beating off the competition in a Windsor tournament.
