Laura Topp writes: An area of overgrown grassland in County Durham is to be turned into a beautiful area where local people can come and enjoy the great outdoors.
The site in the village of Coundon Grange is already being worked on, co-ordinated by Groundwork West Durham, the Northern Echo reports.
It will eventually be turned into a sensory garden and funding is being provided by Wear Valley District Councils Eldon Lane Renewal Scheme.
The planners worked with children from a local school when deciding on the design for the space.
Pupils at Prince Bishop's School were asked what their favourite flowers, colours and smells were.
It is hoped that the garden will be completed in December this year. Joanne Morley, Groundwork project officer, said that she hopes it will make a "real difference" to the community.
She told the local paper: "The garden is based on ideas from the community, and residents are very much behind the scheme."
The area of overgrown grassland is located behind Coundon Grange's main road and will soon feature new surfacing and sensory plants.
