Repairing a shed in time for winter

Friday, November 28 2008 13:40:37 by Alison Patel

Outdoor Furniture Alison Patel writes: Sheds can be an ideal retreat for any gardener and serve as the perfect space for tools but they need to be prepared for winter so they will provide protection for tools.

Firstly, the Telegraph suggests people check their shed roof to see if it needs to be repaired or replaced.

Felt coverings may need replacing as they could deteriorate over time and wooden sheds should be treated with preservative.

Sheds should then be tidied, emptied and swept out. The Telegraph suggests clutter can go to www.freecycle.org.

Valuable garden tool's can be given their own space by installing tool racks. The paper also suggests that free-standing shelving is a good idea to help maximise storage space.

Finally, the paper said it is important to install rodent traps as they can be attracted by dryness and warmth.

Vermin need to be dealt with as the paper said they will destroy stored bulbs, seeds and other crops in addition to equipment.

The Royal Horticultural Society suggests securing sheds and said that land anchors can be bought to secure garden furniture and ornaments.
