Chelsea launches new gardening charity
Daniel Shane writes: A new environmental charity which hopes to promote sustainable gardening methods was launched at this month's Chelsea Flower Show.
The Knoll Gardens Foundation, a collaboration between designer Cleve West Lucas and grass expert Neil Lucas, will also lead educational seminars and workshops for plant enthusiasts up and down the country.
Specifically, the organisation also hopes to introduce the Dutch Elm Disease tolerant Princeton elm into the UK's eco-structure.
Neil Lucas, who also owns Knoll Gardens in Dorset, said: "I have long held a dream to bring the Knoll-style of gardening to a wider audience.
"We are all coming to realise that each garden, and the way we garden, is of increasing importance to the wider environmental picture."
He added that the organisation's approach to gardening was "of benefit to wildlife and environmentally-friendly."
Between 2002 and last year, Knoll Gardens won seven gold medals in a row at the Chelsea Flower Show.
