Britons turn to gardens on glorious bank holiday
Daniel Shane writes: Britons spent the bank holiday in their gardens as the wonderful weather encouraged millions outside.
That is according to one expert, who believes that Monday (May 25th) saw people head to garden centres in their droves.
Tim Briercliffe, business development director at the Horticultural Trades Association, told Horticulture Week that sales for items such as outdoor plants and garden furniture are likely to have soared.
He said: "The weather forecasters, thankfully, were wrong again for the Monday and the sun shone.
"This excellent sales weekend will definitely boost May figures and may well make the whole spring period an exceptionally good year for sales."
Mr Briercliffe added that this season had seen a "grow-your-own phenomenon" and introduced a whole new generation to gardening.
Earlier this month, the National Trust revealed that it was to give away 170 million seeds as part of its Food Glorious Food campaign.
