Ancient woodland to be restored by festival
The Forest of Galtres festival is planning to give a helping hand to the ancient woodland in the surrounding area with its 'plant a tree' scheme.
Having been set up in 2005 as a beer festival the Forest of Galtres event has evolved into a celebration involving music, food and beers and ciders.
Now, festival organisers are using the event to help restore woodland by asking online ticket buyers to donate £5, in return, they will then either send the customer a small tree or offer to plant it for them
The planting sites are both nearby to the festival in Crayke and Huby, both providing access for members of the public.
Festival director James Houston said: "We're keen to reduce the carbon footprint of the Festival and also to take some small steps towards restoring some of the ancient forest from which our event takes its name. And we'd like your help."
The Wodland Trust is one of Britain's largest tree preservation organizations and manages more than 1,000 areas of woodland in the UK.
