Garden centres around Britain are enjoying bumper sales of topiary products.
That is according to a recent report by Horticulture Week, which stated that the interest in topiary was booming during the recession due to gardeners spending more time in the garden.
The BBC's Beechgrove Garden presenter Jim McColl told the news provider: "Topiary is certainly becoming more fashionable and popular. The beauty is you don't need a private gardener or a huge landscape to enjoy topiary and it's a lot easier than people may think.
"The wire nets are available from garden centres for people to give it a try - whether it be a rabbit or a swan."
Anna Pavord, writing for the Independent also noted that August was a good time to trim the hedges into shape.
She suggested that "this month or the next is the best time," with only one trim a year being required.
