Persistent victories lead to ban for vegetable grower

Thursday, August 27 2009 17:40:01 by Editor

Vegetable Gardens Multi award-winning vegetable grower Barry Micklethwaite is seeking legal advice after being banned from local competitions.

The 66-year-old ex-steel worker has been prohibited from exhibiting at the South Yorkshire district of the National Vegetable Society and he believes it is because he wins too often.

He told the Daily Mirror: "They're just looking for a way to keep me out. They don't want me there because I might be a bit too good."

"If they had been honest and said they wanted me to step down and give somebody else a chance I would have done that. But they refused to give a reason so I am determined to fight the decision."

However, officials from the show have suggested that the champion grower has been evicted from the competition circuit due to his bad sportsmanship.

The National Vegetable Society is a charity that has more than 2,500 members nationwide and offers advice on how to grow different varieties of vegetables.
