National Forest Wood Fair thrills crowds
Nature lovers from across the Midlands gathered in Leicestershire yesterday for the fifth annual National Forest Wood Fair.
The bank holiday event, which took place in Beacon Hill Country Park, saw a number of events taking place for the whole family.
As well as live demonstrations of woodworking and chainsaw carving, there were also birds of prey displays, archery lessons and a climbing wall.
Beyond the fun and games, children and adults were also given the chance to learn about the UK's woodlands and the life of a typical tree, from being planted to felling.
There were lumberjack shows, a display of longbow shooting and also a charity auction, as well as various talks on trees and woodlands.
Commenting on the event, the National Forest said: "The Country Park
with its craggy summit and panoramic views, is just one of the many visitor attractions across the three counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire that make up the National Forest."
Earlier this month, a renovation programme was launched to clean up Scotland's woodland areas in a bid to attract more eco-minded visitors.
