Gardeners in Reading are going to be able to buy back their recycled garden waste as nutrient rich compost.
The Smallmead Waste Recycling Centre is set to sell 40-litre bags of compost to local gardeners for a fee of £3.50 per bag, according to getreading.co.uk.
According to the local news provider the scheme will initially run for four weeks and operate on three days per week but could be expanded depending on the success of the plans.
Lead councillor for environment and sustainability at Reading Borough Council Paul Gittings told the newspaper: "By buying the new compost, residents are helping to complete the recycling loop as our green waste is being returned to the soil.
"Whilst it's important that we all recycle as much as possible, it's also crucial that we're able to make good use of what we recycle."
According to recyclenow.com, composting garden waste can save the equivalent of all the CO2 emissions that boiling a kettle would cause for an entire year.
