Wednesday, September 23 2009 09:27:23 by Editor

Lawns & Gardens The Lincolnshire town of Grimsby has been recognised as an award-winning place for environmental beauty and planting prowess.

According to the hosts of BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time, Grimsby is leading the way as an example of what well-kept public gardens and recycling centres can do for Britain's communities.

Comemtning on the town's horticultural success, TV presenter Matthew Biggs told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I would defy anybody to come here and not come away with enthusiasm for plants.

"Anything can be improved with plants and it is something that everyone can get involved in."

Roger Burnett, chairman of judges, said that the panel will be looking for ways local, everyday issues are addressed year-round through "community horticulture".

After taking home the prize of East Midlands in Bloom, the town will compete against other UK regions for this year's Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom award tonight (Wednesday, September 23rd).

The event will be held at The Riviera International Conference Centre, Torbay and hosted by BBC Gardeners' World presenter, Toby Buckland.
