The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has launched a new sustainable resources campaign to encourage Brits to save water both at home and in their daily lives.
Fronted by TV presenter Kate Humble, the initiative promotes water saving measures, such as reusing bathwater for houseplants or the garden, to reduce waste and beat the impact of climate change on the natural environment.
According to Defra, figures show the average UK household uses more than 100,000 litres of water a year.
A spokesperson for Waste Watch said: "When people start thinking about things and perhaps making small changes in their behaviour, it gets them into the mindset of doing things.
"Rather than thinking that you are doing something different it becomes your habitual behaviour."
According to the experts, using a watering can or a bucket in the garden instead of a hosepipe saves 16 litres a minute.
