Win £200 in gardening vouchers!

Thursday, January 11 2007 12:35:35 by Editor

Ethical Living Leicester gardeners are being offered the chance to win £200 worth of vouchers for the National Garden Centre, simply for taking unwanted trees to one of the county's 14 recycling and household waste sites.

Though councils up and down the country are trying to encourage the public to dispose of their unwanted festive firs in a green, responsible way, this is the first initiative to offer the chance of winning a prize which could be used to enhance your garden.

One entry for the draw will be assigned for each resident who brings a tree as an incentive to kick-start your environmentally friendly living plans right from the start of the year.

Professor Mike Preston, cabinet member for waste management, commented: "Around seven million real Christmas trees are purchased in the UK each year, which would potentially create a huge amount of waste.

"If you haven't got a live tree that you can plant in your garden to dig up next year, the next best thing is to take your unwanted Christmas tree to a recycling and household waste site," he added.

Gardeners in the Leicestershire area who want to learn more about this further any other recycling initiative in the county should contact the Recycling Hotline on 0116 265 7339.
